In this novel Carter becomes involved in the world of soccer, as his relationship with the handsome player, Garry Newburn, develops.
One of my passions, apart from writing, is soccer, or football as we call it in the UK. To me there is obvious homoeroticism in the sport, despite it being fairly fiercely heterosexual, as regards the players and the fans. There is no place for any open hint of homosexuality in the game.
Nevertheless, on a regular basis, we see players shedding their shirts when a goal is scored, close embraces amongst team mates and so on. Then there are the changing room communal baths and showers giving lots of homoerotic material for an author like myself!
So this novel, Carter Plays Ball, was a delight for me to write! I hope it delights you too when you read it.
Interwoven with the sexy scenes, I wrote another Carter mystery. This one concerns the disappearance of a boy, who is bullied and teased by the players. The fearless Carter has to get to the bottom of the mystery, travelling from England to Prague. Of course, being Carter, there are several sexual encounters along the way, with straight, bisexual and gay men.
